Throughout the years
Before the 1930s there was no talking in films so in silent films they had to depend on visuals to tell the story. But after talkies came into fashion in the 30s many people began relying on dialogues and using materials from stage to build plots, just because they could! However directors like Hitchcock still used visuals to build plots which was still very effective; and combined with dialogue made some amazing films as more could be happening at once e.g. a conversation while someone attempts to sneak away, thus building the tension and suspense thrillers require!
Tomorrow I'll look at different thrillers from "back in the day" and current ones, thinking about how although Thrillers have enhanced in their use of colour, special effects and audio sound; essentially they still use similar techniques to communicate that essence of thriller.
So stay tuned to my blog!
